The Treasure Hunt

Find treasure.
Pay less.

Every clearance includes The Hunt — we search for valuables before clearing, and pay you 30% of whatever sells.

30%

The Kickback

The deal is simple. We sell your treasures — you keep 30% of the profit.

Unlike traditional clearance companies who throw everything in a van, we hunt for hidden value first. Vintage tools, retro electronics, quality furniture, audio gear — anything sellable goes to eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or local auction. Net profits get split, and your kickback lands directly in your bank account with a full transparency breakdown.

How It Works

Four steps. One kickback.

From the first sort-through to your bank transfer — here's how every Treasure Hunt unfolds.

01

The Hunt Begins

During your clearance, we carefully sort through everything. We're looking for items with resale potential: vintage tools, retro electronics, collectibles, quality furniture, audio equipment, sporting goods, and more.

02

We List & Sell

Items we identify as sellable are taken away and listed on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or sent to local auction houses. We handle all the photography, descriptions, enquiries, and shipping.

03

The 30-Day Window

We give items 30 days to sell. If they sell within this window, you're entitled to your kickback. If they don't sell, we either re-list at a lower price or donate them — but either way, your space is clear.

04

You Get 30%

When items sell, we calculate the net profit (sale price minus eBay/PayPal fees and any shipping costs) and transfer 30% directly to your bank account. We send you a full breakdown so you can see exactly how it's calculated.

The Hunt List

What we hunt for.

You'd be amazed what's hiding in a typical garage or loft. These are the categories that consistently turn into kickbacks.

A vintage Goodmans record player and audio gear found in a Huntingdon loft clearance

Audio Equipment

This Goodmans record player turned up under a dust sheet in a Huntingdon loft — working order, original stylus. Vintage hi-fi separates, valve amps, retro speakers and turntables from brands like Goodmans, Garrard or Wharfedale almost always have a collector waiting.

An Ercol dining table and chair set recovered from a Cambridgeshire house clearance

Antique Furniture

This Ercol dining set — solid elm, original stamp under the table — came out of a probate clearance and went to a mid-century specialist within the week. Solid wood British makers like Ercol, G-Plan, Stag and Parker Knoll consistently outperform what you'd guess.

A box of vintage Star Wars toys and figures found during a house clearance

Collectables

A loft box of original-trilogy Star Wars figures — most loose, a couple still boxed — sold piece by piece to collectors on eBay. Boxed toys, model trains, first-edition books, militaria, stamp albums and old cameras are the categories that surprise people most.

A table of silver, ceramics and curios sorted during a Cambridgeshire clearance

Silver & Curios

This table of hallmarked silver, ceramics, trinket boxes and small heirlooms was triaged out of one bungalow's sideboard. Silver tea sets, signed costume jewellery, vintage watches, ceramics by named potters — the small stuff that gets thrown away most often is also the stuff that pays back fastest.

Example Scenario

How the maths works on a real job.

The Job: Margaret books a Half-Load Haul to clear her late father's garage in St Ives. The clearance fee is £375.

The Hunt: During the clearance, we find a vintage Stanley plane, a working Dyson vacuum, and a box of old vinyl records.

Stanley Plane sold on eBay£85
Dyson vacuum sold locally£45
Vinyl records (lot) at auction£120
Total Sales£250
Less: eBay/PayPal Fees (~15%)-£37.50
Net Profit£212.50
Margaret's 30% Kickback£63.75

Margaret's effective clearance cost: £375 − £63.75 = £311.25

An Option Worth Knowing About

You Can Pass Your 30% On

Not every treasure sale is a windfall — sometimes the rebate is a small amount. For those cases, we give you the option to donate your 30% to a local charity on your behalf rather than receiving a bank transfer. We'll provide a full receipt of the donation, so the paperwork is there whether you need it or not.

We're in the process of formalising a partnership with a brilliant local cause — more details coming soon. In the meantime, if this option interests you, just mention it when we're in touch and we'll talk it through.

Common Questions

The bits people always ask.

Quick, honest answers to the most common Treasure Hunt questions.

What if nothing sells?

You don't owe us anything extra. The Treasure Hunt is a bonus on top of your clearance — if items don't sell, you've still got a clear space. We take the risk on unsold items, not you.

How do I know you're selling items at fair prices?

We send you full transparency on every sale: screenshots of the listing, the final sale price, the fees deducted, and how we calculated your 30%. You can also check eBay "sold" listings yourself to verify market rates.

Can I keep items instead of selling them?

Absolutely. During The Hunt, we'll show you anything we think has value. If you want to keep it, no problem — it's yours. We only take items you're happy for us to sell.

What types of items typically sell well?

Vintage hand tools, retro electronics (hi-fi, speakers, game consoles), quality furniture, garden equipment, bicycles, collectibles, books (first editions), vinyl records, branded items (Dyson, Bosch, etc.), and anything with a known brand or cult following.

When do I get paid?

We batch payments monthly. At the end of each month, we'll send you a statement of everything that sold and transfer your kickback via bank transfer. Typically within 7 days of the statement.

Item Valuation & Resale Disclaimer

Hunt 'n' Haul provides a compassionate clearance service which includes a "best endeavours" attempt to identify items with potential resale value. We are not certified appraisers or antique valuers.

1. Identification

While we strive to identify saleable items, we accept no liability for items of value that are overlooked during the clearance process or disposed of as waste. If you believe you have items of significant value, we recommend obtaining a professional valuation before clearance.

2. Valuations

Any resale estimates provided are informal opinions based on current secondary market trends (e.g., eBay sold listings, auction results) and do not constitute a formal professional valuation. Actual sale prices may vary.

3. Market Price

We act as your agent in selling items. We cannot guarantee a specific sale price or that an item will sell at all. Items are sold at current market value, and Hunt 'n' Haul is not liable if an item sells for less than the client's expectation. Market conditions fluctuate and buyer interest varies.

4. Net Profit Calculation

Your 30% kickback is calculated on the net profit after deducting platform fees (eBay, PayPal, auction house commission) and any shipping or delivery costs. A full breakdown will be provided with each payment.
